Is Kratom a Blood Thinner?

If you are having trouble with blood pressure, you may be wondering whether kratom is a blood thinner. Although there are few cases of fatalities associated with kratom, there are a number of reports that indicate that it can cause adverse effects on the cardiovascular system.

Because kratom can act as a blood thinner, it should be avoided by anyone with a history of heart problems. People should also avoid using it if they are taking anti-coagulants or other medications that affect the clotting process. A lot of people are using kratom for medical usage, but a doctor should be consulted before using it, and a dosage should be adjusted if needed.

Kratom contains alkaloids that interact with other substances, including morphine and illicit opioids such as heroin. These alkaloids can interfere with the metabolism of these drugs in the liver and cause their concentrations to increase. It can also affect other drugs, such as antiplatelets, which prevent blood clots. The alkaloids in kratom affect the CYP enzymes that are responsible for the metabolism of these drugs.

Another risk of long-term use is physical dependence. Withdrawal symptoms can include tremor, vomiting, nausea, and fatigue. While physical dependence is less common with kratom than with other sedative medications, it does occur. Physical dependence is the result of heavy, frequent use, which causes the body to become dependent on a drug. Unlike with a drug addiction, the kratom withdrawal symptoms are generally mild. However, some people have reported developing a tolerance.

Cardiotoxicity in the form of cardiac arrhythmias has been noted in a few case reports. In one case, a 26-year-old man who was ingesting an unknown quantity of kratom 24 hours before the incident presented with an abnormal period of ventricular arrhythmia. Laboratory tests showed that his creatinine kinase was elevated and his troponin I was 0.37 m/L. He was also found to have a hyperkalemia and an acidic blood pH.

Another case report involves a 35-year-old man who was intoxicated by an unknown substance at least 24 hours before the incident. He was found to have a significant past history of alcohol abuse and substance use. This patient underwent rehabilitation treatment and the pathology of the cardiac arrest was not found to be pathogenic. His blood levels of other drugs were within therapeutic range.

Other reported clinical findings included focal band necrosis in the myocardium, cardiomyopathy, and cardiac arrhythmia. One of the most serious effects of kratom use is an increased risk of coronary atherosclerosis.

Ajmalicine, a component of kratom, is also a blood thinner. It has anti-adrenergic, antihypertensive, and sedative properties. Additionally, it can soothe muscles, increase oxygen in the brain, and improve cognitive function.

As with many other medications, kratom can negatively interact with other medicines, including anticoagulants and antiplatelets. Blood thinning is not a direct effect of kratom, but a negative interaction. Taking kratom while on a blood thinner can cause an increase in the concentration of the blood thinner. Therefore, you should consult your doctor before taking any drug or changing prescriptions.
